The good news for wordpress.com blogger is that there is now a convenient method to verify ownership of their blogs with the 3 big search engines.

The method is for Google Webmaster, Yahoo Site Explorer, and Bing Webmaster Center verification. The easy to follow step by step instructions can be found in theWordPress.com Support Documentation at the Webmaster Tools link.

Bloggers with wordpress.com blogs cannot not verify ownership by adding the meta tag or file as we all work on a wpMU (multiuser) blogging platform and cannot access and edit the underlying templates for our blogs. Consequently, in the past the method we used for verification was the alternate method.

We offer two methods of verification. You can either upload an HTML file with a name that we specify or you can add a meta tag to your site’s index file. — Google

This amounted to creating a new Page and giving it the title which was the code for verification and then deleting or making the page private once verification was achieved.

The best place to post a blog description on your blog is on your About page, as it is meant to contain a brief biography (profile) and a blog description, including your blogging goal(s) and tags for the blog.

But this is not the only place you will be using your profile and blog description.

Who are you? What do you do? What are you talking about? What will you be talking about? What gives you the right to talk about anything? What are you doing here? Why are you doing it here? — Lorelle VanFossen in Who The Hell Are You?

A concise profile and accurate blog description

This profile, blog description and the tags can then be used for registration and promotional purposes in all the blog directories, forums and social networks you join. Depending on the character limits each site sets you may have to truncate the information. However, maintaining as much continuity as possible will assist you to create a presence in the blogosphere and in the internet.

An elevator speech

In these days when we use social media and social networks including friendfeed, other RSS services and as twitter it’s also advisable to create a 140 character blog description, frequently referred to as an elevator speech.

Goals and growth models

Bloggers and their readers are co-creators of a blog’s brand. It’s important to invest time into finding the correct niche for your blog and formulating your goals. It’s likewise just as important to examine your blog in terms of growth models.

Content is king; marketing is queen

In blogging content is king and marketing is queen. If you write high quality original content and promote it then the result may be an increase in organic traffic, or not. If you are not adept at applyingbasic SEO then it will not be easy for potential readers to locate your content in search engines, and there will be no increase in new traffic. Thus, what determines success is two things:

whether or not your content is found, and

whether or not the readers who do find it become subscribers.

Mix and mingle in blog directories and social networks

It is not in the best interests of your blog to remain behind the blogspot or wordpress.com garden wall, so to speak. It is in your blog’s best interest to actively promote your blog to bloggers working on all from all blogging platforms. Some blog directories and social networks are general and have categories and sub-categories that define niches within their general membership. Other blog directories and social networks are niche (subject) specific. In both cases doing a effective job of promoting your posts and your blog is based on the foundation of having a concise profile and accurate blog description.

Although the definition of blog niche is limited to the intent to make money from marketing in specific subject area, one can easily comprehend that whether or not a blog is designed to make money it will tend to feature limited and targeted subject matter eg. parenting, movies, food, dating, blogging tips, etc. It’s important to understand that the best way to introduce your blog to other bloggers and to attract traffic and comments to it is to seek out blogs in the same niche (subject area) as your own blog. Focus on leaving meaningful comments, creating blog centered relationships with fellow bloggers, andencouraging them to read and comment on your posts.

Creating a blog and establishing organic traffic flow

To review the steps you have taken when it comes to creating and promoting your your blog I’d like to draw your attention to Creating a new blog. To be sure you have covered the basic steps required to create a flow of organic traffic to your blog I recommend Twenty five steps for increasing blog traffic.

This post is dedicated to two new wordpress.com blogger: dbennison and gianlucalemort who both wanted to know how to get people to follow their blogs.

We all know that the heart and soul of search engine marketing lies in inbound links so we spend most of our time building links to our websites and our clients’ websites. Though links are not everything in SEO, they are the most important element or factor that will push your websites on top of SERPs (search engine results page) for your target. But how can a really good link be defined and compared to low quality or junk links? Here’s the complete guide that I use to determine how good a website is and if it’s worth buying or exchanging links with.

Search Engine Indexed and Cached

Though this is the most important aspect of a website to look into, many link buyers often skip this part of their evaluation. If a link is not indexed by a search engine, it will not do any good to your website. It is also important to check when the website was last cached by search engines. Cache is the snapshot or record of the website taken by search engines like Google. Ideally, the website should be cached within the last two weeks.

You can check when the website was last cached by Google by searching: “cache:tecklibrary.wordpress.com”

You can check the number of pages indexed by Google from a website by searching: “site:tecklibrary.wordpress.com”

Google Pagerank

Most of the time, the first thing being considered in evaluating the quality of a website is its Pagerank. This is the Google’s measurement of a web page’s importance in the web. The higher the PR or pagerank of the page that your link is going to be placed on, the better it is for your search engine marketing. Yahoo! has its own version of PR which is called the Web Rank. However, I recommend that you use Google’s PR in evaluating the quality of a website. You can check the Pagerank of a webpage using these tools: SEO Logs PR Checker, Check PageRank, Dig Page Rank and Blog Flux PR checker. You can check the Pagerank by installing a Google toolbar and enabling the PageRank feature. Note that having a high Pagerank alone does not mean that the link you are getting on that site is high quality.

Back Links or Inbound Links of the Website

A website can have a Pagerank of 3/10 but how long do you think it will remain like that? Well, no one knows for sure. However, if the website has a good number of backlinks, the probability that its pagerank will retain or increase is higher. In checking backlinks, use the Yahoo Site Explorer. You should also check if the links are coming from different or just a few websites. Of course, it is better if the backlinks are coming from many different websites rather than a single or few websites.

Quality and Relevant Content

Having a link on just any website does not help your own website. Your backlinks should come from websites relevant to yours. If your website is about blogging and making money online, then a link from real estate websites will not help you much. A website that has quality content related to internet and blogging is what you should be looking for. Avoid websites that have duplicate or copied content. You can use Copyscape to check if the website you are acquiring links for do not have duplicate content.

Age and History of Websites

Links from older and well established sites are better for SEO. Just make sure that the domain of the website you are buying or exchanging links from has a clean history. Being clean mean it was not previously an adult or gambling related website which was then made to a fitness website. In checking the domain age of a website, you can use the Whois Tool of Domain Tools.

Through this whois tool, you can when exactly the domain of the website was registered, the name of domain registrar, nameservers used by the website and the IP address of the website. For the website’s history, you can check the archived history of a website through the Wayback Machine of Archive.org.

Number of Outbound Links

Always check how many outgoing links does the web page your link will be placed on currently have. If possible, negotiate with the webmaster, link broker or your link exchange partner on the maximum number of links they will place on the page. One page can only have a certain amount of “Link Juice” that it can pass to the websites it is linking to and that Link Juice is shared by all outbound or external links. This means that the less external links the webpage has, the more weight or “Link Juice” it can pass to your website.

Multiple IP Addresses

Search engines also analyze the IP addresses of the websites that link to your website. If the all websites that link to yours come from the same class-C and class-D IP addresses, those links will be considered as spam. The backlinks that you acquire should at least come from different class-C IP address. Gaining backlinks from different class-D IP addresses is not good enough and will still be flagged as spam. To find out the IP address of a website, you can use the Website IP Address Search Tool of Self SEO.

Search Engine Rankings

Acquiring a link from a relevant website that is ranking high in search engines is a big plus. However, you can rarely acquire such links. This is because most of these websites are also your competitors who are willing to spend time and money in promoting their websites in search engines. But you’ll never know when you might bump into a really high ranking website that’s selling links. Be sure to grab the opportunity if you bumped into one.

Traffic and Visitors

Another huge plus for the links that you are going to buy and exchange with is traffic. Though traffic does not affect search engine results, you’re getting your money’s worth if you get a link on a high traffic website. This is like hitting two birds with one stone. You can increase your search engine rankings and get your site promoted through referral of visitors at the same time. Most of the time, websites with high pagerank and high volume of traffic are really expensive.

Those are the things that you should be checking when buying or trading links with another website. Most of the time, you will not get positive results from some of the things evaluated above but deciding whether to purchase of trade links depends on what you think matters more. Is it pagerank, domain age, history of website or traffic? This is one aspect of internet marketing where SEO specialists and other search engine marketing people differ.

Before you actually purchase links, try some of these link evaluation methods to learn and understand how they actually work. This will prevent you from buying or trading with low quality links and will maximize your money’s worth in buying links.

INTRODUCTION

So you’ve heard the term “blog” and you want to know what blogs are all about. Here I will teach you just what a blog is, so you will have all the knowledge you need to go start your own blog.

WHAT IS A BLOG?

First of all, some definitions. I know it sounds a bit dry but its necessary. So here is the first definition: Blog

a blog is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Blog is the short form of the weblog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries.

Here are a couple of other definitions:

“…the first journalistic model that actually harnesses rather than merely exploits the true democratic nature of the web. It’s a new medium finally finding a unique voice.”–Andrew Sullivan

“[a] collection of posts…short, informal, sometimes controversial, and sometimes deeply personal…with the freshest information at the top.”–Meg Hourihan

TERMINOLOGY

As so often happens in the English language, many derivates of the word blog have been created. One who participates in the activities of maintaining a blog is known as a blogger and the activity of keeping a blog is known as blogging. So we could say that the blogger blogs in his blog, but that might cause your English teacher to weep. We are going to use these terms with alarming frequency, so make sure you understand what they mean before you go on.

Blog (noun) – a journal or diary that is on the Internet - Andrew Sullivan has the most popular blog on the Internet.

Blogger (noun) – a person who keeps a blog – Bloggers are revolutionizing the way news is shared.

Blog (verb) – to write a blog - I am going to blog before breakfast this morning.

Blogging (verb) – the action of writing a blog – Blogging is my way of sharing my passions with the world.

Originally blogs were known primarily as places for people to write about their day-to-day activities. Their mundane, everyday tasks became fodder for journal entries. Somehow these writers gained a following and the hobby of blogging was born. Today people write about far more interesting topics. But we’ll get to that in a minute.

WHO BLOGS?

So who are these fearless people who would be willing to post about their lives in as public a forum as the Internet? They are people just like you. Once the haven of technical know-it-alls, blogging has suddenly caught-on as a legitimate hobby and has entered the mainstream. Every day millions of people, some of whom have no technical ability whatsoever, write on their blogs. To meet this demand some amazing tools have been created that will allow anyone, even people with very little knowledge of computers, to have their own blog. If you can find your way onto the Internet and follow some basic instructions you can have your own blog. It’s just that easy.

WHY DO PEOPLE BLOG?

So you may be asking why anyone would want to have their own blog. We believe the answer lies in the fact that every human has a voice and wishes their voice to be heard. The Internet is a medium that is unparalleled in its reach. Never before have average people like you or me been able to reach a global audience with so little trouble. Bloggers have the opportunity of reaching hundreds or even thousands of people each and every day.

There are still many people who like to share the details of their days. They may post twenty or thirty times a day, detailing when they ate lunch and when they headed home from work. On the other hand there are bloggers who give almost no detail about their lives, but write instead about a hobby or interest of theirs. They may dedicate their blog to something they are passionate about.

I will talk about how to go about setting up a blog in a later post.

Torrents are the best way to share files. It works on peer to peer file sharing protocol. A torrent is actually a small file with extension .torrent which contains information about the tracker and where the file is located. To download a torrent file you need a torrent client like utorrent, bittorrent.

There are two types of torrent users:

1. Seeders: People who upload file or people who download and seed file for upload. In this tutorial I will show you how you can create a torrent file for both public and private torrent sites

2. Leechers: People who download file and then remove the torrent ( no further upload ). That’s where Private torrent trackers comes in action. Every user have to maintain 1:1 ratio (download:upload) else his account will be banned and I personally promote private torrent trackers for the same reason.

Regardless of what your style is, remember that it’s a world of reciprocation. This is not the place to discuss leechers vs. seeders. On to the tutorial.

How to create a torrent file

Before you start creating a torrent, you will need two things:

Torrent builder : In our case we are using utorrent)

Torrent tracker: You can get the tracker address from the website for which you are creating torrent.

In this case I will be creating for one of the private torrent website, bwtorrents, though the process is almost the same for all the websites. The only difference is the tracker address.

Step 1:

Download utorrent from utorrent download page.

Step 2:

Install utorrent and open it.

Step 3:

Either click on ctrl+N or navigate to file>create new torrent under utorrent.

Step 4:

Now you have to decide what are you going to upload a file or a directory? In our case we will be sharing a directory which contains 2 files. Browse the directory and now open your torrent website where you want to upload the torrent.

Step 5:

We need to find the tracker address :

Open the home page of the torrent website and at the bottom of the page you will see the current tracker address. If you have trouble finding it you can drop a comment here and we will help you.

Check the screen-shot for bwtorrents tracker :

and here are some popular trackers that you can use for public torrent websites:

http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce

http://www.torrent-downloads.to:2710/announce

http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce

udp://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce

http://www.sumotracker.com/announce

By now you have added your tracker address. If you still have confusion read this : Private torrent website use there own torrent tracker whereas public torrent website may allow you to use their own tracker or generic one which I mentioned above.

Step 6:

Now there are two options: “Start seeding” and “private torrent”

Start Seeding option:

In some private torrent website you first need to upload the torrent and then download the torrent from there and then seed (upload) the file. So its better if you make it a habit for every website.

Private torrent option:

Private torrent option if checked disables DHT that means in case if the tracker is down it use the other means to exchange peers. This should be checked only if you are creating torrent for public torrent and unchecked if you are creating for private torrent because private torrent needs to keep a track of your download and upload ratio. So better leave it unchecked.

Click on create and save as. This will save the torrent file and also give a meaningful name to the torrent you are creating.

Step 7:

Open your favorite torrent website and go to the right category and click on upload torrent and give all the details you can provide there. If you are uploading movies or some video do provide them with few Screen-shots.

Step 8:

Once done download the torrent file and open it using your client. I would recommend utorrent for its ease of use and stability.

Step 9:

Open then downloaded torrent file and in the location navigate it to the folder you used to create the torrent file:

You will see a screen shot like this after that it shows that you have finished downloading the file (100%) and now you are seeding.

Within a minute it will show connected and congratulation now you have become a seeder.

If you have any doubt or any confusion feel free to ask via comment or best catch would be twitter http://twitter.com/mahmutalan
